Our Unique History

In 1900–1901, Colonel Moorhead Kennedy, a prominent Pennsylvania railroad executive, commissioned renowned Philadelphia architect Frank Furness to design his family’s summer home on this peaceful hillside. The result was a striking Gilded Age mansion filled with rich African Mahogany woodwork and a grand oak staircase that still welcomes guests today.

By 1913, the home had grown with a thoughtful addition, becoming the largest residence in Franklin County and a beloved gathering place for elegant parties, music, and distinguished visitors.

Today, that same spirit of warmth and timeless elegance lives on at The Inn at Ragged Edge.
Every room and detail tells a piece of the story.

Famous Guests

For more than a century, The Inn at Ragged Edge has welcomed distinguished visitors.

During the elegant gatherings of the 1910s and 1920s, the mansion hosted General John J. Pershing, French General Ferdinand Foch, Brigadier General William W. Atterbury, along with prominent governors and senators. Philadelphia society came for evening concerts, dances, and lively conversation in these very rooms.

That proud tradition of opening our doors to remarkable people continues today — now with you.
